Electric Skateboard

We invite you to consult your local government’s website to learn about the legal framework in effect regarding the use of Personal Motorized Mobility Devices.

Do I Have the Skills?

Electric skateboarding is more accessible than traditional skateboarding because it doesn’t require as much balancing skill and can cover long distances effortlessly.

For beginners, an electric longboard offers more stability, while experienced riders might prefer smaller, more powerful, and faster models.

It’s essential to wear protective gear, such as a full face helmet, wrist guards, and knee pads, regardless of your skill level.

Which Board for Which Type of Journey?

If you have access to bike paths, electric skateboards with longboard wheels and hub motors are ideal, offering better range.

For varied terrains like dirt paths or cobblestone streets, pneumatic wheels of at least 6 inches are recommended to safely handle obstacles. You can choose puncture-proof wheels for occasional rides or inflatable wheels for enhanced comfort.

For a more practical and urban use, prioritize lightness and compactness. Make sure to choose a certified version if you plan to ride on public roads. Finally, an ergonomic remote control with advanced features can enhance your riding experience.

Some skateboards offer interchangeable wheels, allowing you to switch between terrains as needed. These boards are equipped with external motors that drive the wheels via belts.

Battery Life

Your e-skate has a lithium battery, which should be chosen based on the distance you plan to travel. Battery life is influenced by several factors, such as its capacity, cell quality, your weight and gear, terrain type, slopes, riding style, and wheel type. Like with a car, you can optimize its use for better efficiency.

Some boards offer removable batteries to extend range or fast chargers for quick recharges during breaks.

To compare batteries, look at the Ah (Ampere-hour) or Wh (Watt-hour) values of different models: the higher the value, the greater the range.

Budget

Budgets and the quality of e-skates vary. Buying abroad may seem economical, but import fees and VAT can increase the final price. In Europe, you avoid these fees, but make sure to choose a brand known for quality and spare part availability. This ensures a sustainable investment and makes future resale easier. Maintaining an e-skate is generally affordable, with minimal costs for models with hub motors, while belt-driven models require occasional replacement, depending on several factors.

It is recommended to purchase spare parts along with your electric skateboard.
